At James Cambell Primary School, it is our\nintention that Geography will inspire pupils with a curiosity and fascination\nabout the world and its people. Geography will promote children\u2019s spiritual,\nmoral, social and cultural development helping them to have a greater\nunderstanding of their place in the world, and their rights and\nresponsibilities to other people and the environment. We encourage the children\nto ask questions about the world and provide opportunities for them to develop\ngeographical skills and knowledge to be able to answer them. We aim to give our learners strong geographical knowledge, good\nenquiry skills, the ability to use a range of maps, the skills to collect and\nanalyse data and the ability to communicate information in a variety of ways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We want the children to have a\nlove of geographical learning, gaining knowledge and skills through high\nquality teaching both inside and outside the classroom. We aim to develop children\u2019s Geographical\nvocabulary and love of reading real by immersing them in a variety of texts: articles\nabout world events, deforestation, natural disasters and their impact. This is\naimed at give children a deeper understanding and awareness of the natural\nglobal phenomena and to widen their experience of the environment away from\ntheir homes. We introduce children to maps form KS1 to build a firm foundation\nand knowledge about the continents that make up the world, the biomes and\ndiversity within them and the uniqueness and importance of each continent as\nwell as the importance of biodiversity, population and food production as well\nas distribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pupils have the chance\nin Year Five to attend the residential trip to Trewern where they have various\nopportunities to develop geographical fieldwork skills. This supports the work\ndone in and around the school\u2019s grounds and local community.
