With a\nfirm foundation of mathematical fluency, we want pupils to recognise the\nimportance of having a deep understanding which is achieved by investigating and\nexploring mathematical concepts. Fostering a growth mathematical mind-set is\nkey to this as pupils become resilient and resourceful in their mathematical\njourney. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teaching maths for mastery involves\nwhole-class interactive teaching \u2014 all pupils work together and progress at the\nsame rate. Only once children have a deep understanding of the mathematical\nconcepts they are taught will they move on to more advanced lessons.&nbsp;It\nfocuses on helping students acquire a deep and long-term understanding of maths\nthey can use in different real-life situations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lessons taught using the Maths Mastery\napproach should involve discussions, questioning, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/masterthecurriculum.co.uk\/products\/\">variety of fun maths activities<\/a>&nbsp;and\ndemonstrations of concepts. Perhaps most importantly, they should be enjoyable\nas well as informative. Making maths lessons fun can improve learning retention\nand help children develop long-term knowledge and abilities.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At  James Cambell Primary, we are building a culture of deeper understanding, confidence and competence in maths \u2013 a culture that produces strong, secure learning and real progress. No matter what their starting points, we strive to ensure pupils achieve excellence through a mastery approach to teaching. We do this by using the White Rose maths scheme in Years 5 and 6, and Power Maths in Reception to Year 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mathematics Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We follow the National\nCurriculum, use the Calculation Policy and Primary Schemes of Learning from the\n<a href=\"https:\/\/whiterosemaths.com\/resources\/primary-resources\/primary-sols\/\">White\nRose Maths<\/a> organisation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maths Enrichment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Children have the\nopportunities to take part in class, school and national competitions.
