Councillor Kangethe visits James Cambell Primary School \u2013 October 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Elizabeth Kangethe, the Cabinet Member for Educational Attainment and School Improvement, visited James Cambell Primary School as part of its Black History Month celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her visit, she attended the year 5\u2019s Black History Assembly and also cut the ribbon on the school\u2019s new climbing equipment.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Black History Assembly was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black people to the UK and around the world, as well as the wonderful diversity of the school itself.  The children talked about Black inventors and mathematicians and performed songs by Bob Marley and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Kangethe said, \u201cBarking and Dagenham is one of the most diverse boroughs in the UK, that is just one of the reasons why it\u2019s a great place to educate your children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBlack History is also British History, and in this borough, we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Black, African and Caribbean people who are part of this community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fantastic new climbing frame, which was installed by Educational Play Environments, is proving a huge hit with the children. It is part of an ongoing series of improvement to the school\u2019s playground, which included the installation of a gigantic sandpit last year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Wilson, Headteacher, said \u201cThese are exciting times at James Cambell.  Not only are the children achieving well academically \u2013 with SATs results in 2022 well above the national average \u2013 but we are also working hard to ensure that the children are provide with the wider opportunities that they deserve.  We want all our children to enjoy school and to set them up for future success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
