We aim to\ngive our pupils better strategies to communicate their needs and interact with\nothers. The systems we use help children to see the positive and negative\nconsequences of their actions, enabling them to reflect on their behaviour and\nhave alternatives for future interactions. These skills will enable them to\nparticipate more successfully in the classroom and social situations, making it\neasier for them to transition back to mainstream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Communication, consequences and\nclarity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>On a child\u2019s\ninduction to CPC, we go through our rules and consequences. We find out about\nthe child\u2019s background and interests in order to know what motivates them and\nto help them belong.\n\nWe use the same clearly labelled visual behaviour chart in each class, designed\nin consultation with behaviour experts. We also use \u2018Catch me\u2019 cards and golden\npoints to help children identify their own good behaviour and aim towards\ngoals: small prizes and a weekly raffle reward children\u2019s efforts. Self-reflection\nsheets help children to take responsibility for their actions. Staff use clear\nlanguage to communicate expectations and use the morning toast sessions to\ncheck in with children and to hear their views on what\u2019s happening at CPC,\nparticularly where there are any changes.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Positive handling\/Risk assessment<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before your child\nbegins at CPC, we will assess the risks involved in their behaviour and how\nbest to manage them. This may involve distraction, reminders of consequences\nor, on occasion, physical handling.
